Inside Yarmouth Arts: Anita Loomis
For her Yarmouth Maine exhibition, artist Anita Loomis delved into landscape paintings with an eye toward abstraction, form, color, and line. Tomorrowland explores aspects of our natural surroundings and considers the possible effects of climate change on plants, animals, and terrain. Loomis notes that one of her goals for the series was to explore possible positive aspects of climate change by looking for potentially beneficial evolutionary changes. Several works in this show were created especially for this exhibit and were inspired by features of nearby Royal River Park. The show was on view in April 2024. Tomorrowland
Concern over climate change has brought my attention back to this series of paintings, through which I imagine possible new plant and animal life that could evolve in response to environmental changes. With no doubt that the current rate of species extinction is alarmingly high, my naturally hopeful and curious nature pivots to imagine what robust new life forms might emerge in defensive response. Most recent work simultaneously considers the prehistoric and futuristic landscape along with humanity's relationship to time and place. How will humanity’s behavior and role in the world change as we come to understand the long-term effects of our actions on the environment?

Growing Couples
Painting allows me to imagine what could be. With the new pieces in the Couples series, I explore the role of love in our connections. How do we connect and share our lives with others? Intentionally lacking facial expression, these works express their character in the settings they surround themselves with. Can you see yourself in painting? How do you feel about your life and your relationships with those most close to you? Ho do you feel in the presence of the works?

Family Additions
New work was added to the Family series of oil paintings in 2023. Related to the Chatter Box works on paper which explore a variety of communication issues, these new works evolve around characters and scenes that focus on those imperfect family members and situations that don’t exactly go as planned; but it’s the thought that counts! Backgrounds are a secondary thematic focus. You may recognize historic references lurking behind the scenes. Some are playful and others have more political content.
